Edge of the Republic

A convoy is destroyed at Caldris. The evidence is meant to blame the Vreth. A dying ensign's beacon says otherwise.

In the last forty-seven minutes of her life, Ensign Mira Solis recorded what her ship's sensors actually saw: a weapon that matches nothing in the Republic's database, and false Vreth telemetry scattered through the debris to frame a war.

Commander Davian Kael of the TRS Resolute receives the beacon. What he uncovers is not a simple conspiracy. Something older than any civilization in the galaxy has been approaching for seven hundred thousand years, and the attack at Caldris is part of how it clears the ground.

Six species — human, Vreth, Skareen, Aldouri, Vaeln — converge on an ancient chamber on Kerath-IV to sign a covenant none of them trust. It changes nothing yet. But for the first time in the approaching thing's long record, a region ahead of it is building something new.
